Daniela Hehle Hearing 'i am not yet here' instantly had me feeling I rediscovered something about me I thought I was about to lose, a very distinct feeling. The music made so much sense to me that I shed tears and at the same time, felt gladness and ease. I haven't been this affected by music in a long time and I believe part of what I feared losing was the ability to be affected this much. Subzar...my heart smiles. Thank you. It is now part of where I am going. Can't compare this to anything else I've heard. Favorite track: as memories fade, that which remains....

about

‘i am not yet here’ comprises five pieces that span several years, as the group transitioned from guitar-based project into acoustic quartet. The rhythmic and melodic complexities of the pieces combine to form a unique sound that reaches from the introspective to the optimistic.

Conceptually, the EP’s poetic song titles each convey the mood of the instrumentals and, in succession, are also parts of a longer narrative that complements the entire aural journey.

Founded in south England by two friends, subzar was originally called 'somewhere between the zenith and ruin' as a title for what was at first a side project. This in time became an acoustic quartet with the addition of cello and violin, and its earlier post-rock instrumentals evolved into more compositional pieces replete with post-rock, jazz and folk influences. The name 'subzar' reflects the long-term project's coming of age but it also embodies its original title - a phrase that remains at the heart of subzar's diverse, colourful music.

subzar is: chris redfearn, gav sirisena, derek yau and nicky haire
